Tuinieren, fotografie, sport, wandelen in de natuur, interieur inrichting, fietsen, muziek, duurzaamheid.
Er zijn zoveel dingen waar ik plezier uit haal en over alles kan uitgebreid verteld worden. Al mijn interesses zullen zeker ook in meer of mindere mate terug komen in de verhalen die ik vertel, maar het hoofd thema is het interieur in combinatie met duurzaamheid. Want in mijn ogen moeten we naar een wereld waar het maken van milieuvriendelijke keuzes de standaard is.
Door mijn brede interesses heb ik een heel wisselend pad bewandeld. Ik heb kunstgeschiedenis gestudeerd in Leiden. Nadat ik hier mijn master behaald heb, ben ik in Londen aan Sotheby’s Institute of Art gaan studeren. Voor nog meer verdieping in mijn specialisatie decoratieve kunst ben ik hier de master ’Contemporary Design’ gaan doen. Door Ikea als onderwerp te nemen voor mijn master scriptie wilde ik duidelijk maken dat kunst niet alleen in een museum staat. Nu, jaren later, zie ik juist nog meer het belang in van deze dagelijkse gebruiksvoorwerpen en de rol die ze kunnen spelen in de verduurzaming van de wereld.

Na mijn studie ben ik in de IT beland. De afgelopen zes jaar heb ik daar veel geleerd. Eerst als frontend programmeur en later steeds meer als sturende kracht achter het team. Vooral het team stimuleren het beste uit zichzelf te halen en samen een goed product maken, is waar ik veel plezier aan beleeft heb. Omdat ik graag voor een product wilde werken met positieve impact op het milieu en de aarde, ben ik tot de conclusie dat ik terug moet naar het interieur en de voorwerpen waar we dagelijks gebruik van maken. Materialen, productie, het gebruik en hergebruik zijn stuk voor stuk stappen in het leven van een product, die allen invloed hebben op het milieu.
Een activist ben ik nooit geweest. Al sinds de middelbare school probeer ik voor mijzelf uit te zoeken wat de verhoudingen zijn tussen de driehoek dierenwelzijn, de aarde en mijzelf. Hier heb ik voorheen nooit mee te koop gelopen, maar ondertussen hebben mijn keuzes zeker wel impact op mijn directe omgeving. Naast dat ik zelf wil blijven leren, hoop ik ook anderen te stimuleren en te informeren over milieuvriendelijke keuzes in het interieur.

There are many things that give me joy and I could write even more things about all of them. My different interests will return more or less in the stories I’m going to write, however the main theme is interior and sustainability. Because I think we should shift towards a world where sustainable choices are the standard.
My career has not been a straight line, because of the many interests I have. I studies Art History in Leiden, the Netherlands. After receiving my masters here, I chose to continue my studies at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London. I wanted to deepen my knowledge of the decorative arts and did the master ‘Contemporary Design’. By choosing Ikea as subject for my master thesis I wanted to make clear that art is not only something for in a museum. Now, years later, I realise even more the importance of objects for everyday use and the part they can play in making our world a more sustainable place.

After my studies, I went into IT. I learned a lot the past six years. I started as frontend developer and became more and more the driving force of the team. The parts I enjoyed most where, stimulating the team to get the most out themselves and to make an amazing product together. Because I wanted to work for a product that has a positive impact on the environment and the earth, I came to the conclusion that I had to return to interiors and the objects we use in our daily lives. Materials, production, the use and reuse of these products are all parts of the lifecycle of a product that has impact on the environment.
I have never been an activist. However since middle school I am trying to figure out for myself how the trinity of animal welfare, the earth, and me relate to each other. I have never blown my own trumpet on this, though meanwhile my choices did impact my immediate surroundings. I want to keep learning more and more on the subject and I hope, from now on also to stimulate and inform others on environmental friendly choices in the interior.
